What Should I Ask a Turkish Clinic Before Booking Veneers?

The Questions That Separate a Good Veneer from a Nightmare
I’ve seen it happen too many times. A patient arrives in Antalya, excited, having booked a “full smile makeover” for what seemed like a steal. They show me a WhatsApp conversation with a clinic that promised “Hollywood veneers” for £120 per tooth. The photos look perfect. The reviews are five stars. But within a year, they’re back in the UK, dealing with gum inflammation, chipped edges, and a shade that looks nothing like the mock-up they were shown.
This isn’t a scare story. It’s the reality of dental tourism when you don’t ask the right questions. As a Specialist Prosthodontist at Taki Dent, I’ve spent years correcting work from clinics that cut corners. The good news? You can avoid this entirely. You just need to know what to ask before you commit a single pound.
Here are the questions that will separate a reputable clinic from one that’s just selling a cheap flight and a smile.
1. “Who Exactly Will Design and Place My Veneers?”
This is the single most important question. In the UK, you expect a dentist—preferably a prosthodontist or a cosmetic specialist—to handle your case. In Turkey, the reality is more varied. Some clinics use a “treatment coordinator” who designs the smile on a screen, then hands the work to a general dentist or even a dental technician.
You need a prosthodontist. That’s my speciality. A prosthodontist has three additional years of university training specifically in restoring and replacing teeth. We understand occlusion—how your teeth meet—and we know how to design veneers that last, not just look good in a selfie.
Ask directly: “Is a prosthodontist or a specialist in cosmetic dentistry personally placing my veneers? Or will it be a general dentist?” If they can’t give you a clear name and qualification, that’s a red flag.
2. “What Material Will My Veneers Be Made From?”
This sounds technical, but it’s straightforward. Most veneers in Turkey are either:
- Composite resin – applied directly to the tooth, like a sculpted filling. Cheaper, but less durable and stains more easily. Realistic cost in Turkey: £90–£160 per tooth.
- Porcelain (E.max) – a single block of lithium disilicate, pressed or milled, then cemented. Stronger, more translucent, stain-resistant. Realistic cost in Turkey: £180–£350 per tooth.
In the UK, the same E.max veneer costs £500–£1,300 per tooth. That’s why Turkey is attractive. But some clinics will offer you “porcelain” that’s actually a cheaper, layered ceramic that chips more easily. Ask for the exact brand: Ivoclar Vivadent E.max, for example, or Dentsply Cercon. If they can’t name it, they’re hiding something.
Also ask: “Is the veneer pressed or milled?” Pressed E.max is stronger than milled blocks. At Taki Dent, we use pressed E.max for anterior cases because it mimics natural enamel better.
3. “How Many Visits Will I Need, and What Happens If Something Goes Wrong?”
A common myth is that you can get veneers in one trip. You can’t—not properly. A full smile design with porcelain veneers requires at least two visits: one for preparation, impression, and temporary veneers; another for bonding. That’s a minimum of 5–7 days in Antalya.
But the real question is: what happens after you go home? Some clinics offer a one-year warranty, but you have to fly back to claim it. That’s not practical. Ask:
- “Do you offer a remote warranty? Can you arrange for a UK dentist to adjust or repair the veneer if needed?”
- “What is the cost of a replacement if a veneer chips within two years?”
At Taki Dent, we provide a written warranty and a detailed aftercare plan. We also have a network of UK dentists who can do minor adjustments if you can’t travel. This is rare, but it’s the standard you should demand.
4. “Can I See a Smile Design Mock-Up Before Any Treatment?”
Any clinic worth its salt will use digital smile design software. You should see a preview of your new smile on a photo of your face before you agree to anything. This isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. It shows you the shape, length, and proportion of the veneers.
But here’s the catch: some clinics show you a “mock-up” that’s just a generic template. Ask for a 3D-printed or wax-up model that you can hold in your mouth. This lets you feel the thickness and see how it affects your lips and speech.
I always tell patients: “If you can’t see it before we start, don’t start.” At Taki Dent, we do a full digital scan, design the smile in 3D, and print a temporary set so you can live with the new look for a day before we finalise anything.
5. “What Is the Total Cost, Including All Hidden Fees?”
This is where UK patients get stung. A clinic might quote £180 per tooth for E.max veneers, but that price often excludes:
- Impressions and digital scans (£50–£150 extra)
- Temporary veneers (£100–£200)
- Anaesthetic and sedation (if needed)
- Laboratory fees (sometimes billed separately)
- Post-operative adjustments (if you need a second visit)
Ask for a full, itemised quote in GBP. Include the cost of your flights, accommodation, and at least one extra day in Antalya in case of delays. A realistic total for 10 E.max veneers at a top clinic like Taki Dent is around £2,500–£3,500, including everything except travel. In the UK, you’d pay £8,000–£13,000 for the same work.
If a clinic quotes £1,200 for 10 veneers including everything, run. That’s composite at best, or worse, a material that will fail within months.
6. “What Is Your Protocol for Infection Control and Sterilisation?”
This isn’t a glamorous question, but it’s vital. Turkey has excellent private clinics, but standards vary. You want a clinic that uses single-use sterilised instruments, autoclave certification, and a clean, modern environment.
Ask: “Do you use digital impressions or traditional putty?” Digital is cleaner and more accurate. “What is your protocol for bloodborne pathogens?” If they hesitate, that’s a warning.
At Taki Dent, we follow UK-equivalent infection control standards. We use intraoral scanners, not messy impression material, and every instrument is individually wrapped and sterilised. We’re happy to show you our sterilisation room.
7. “How Will My Bite Be Adjusted?”
Veneers change your bite. If they’re too thick, your back teeth won’t meet properly, leading to jaw pain, headaches, and even cracked veneers. A good prosthodontist will adjust the occlusion meticulously.
Ask: “Do you check the bite with articulating paper and adjust the veneers after bonding?” Some clinics skip this step to save time. Don’t let them.
I always spend at least 20 minutes on occlusion adjustment after bonding. It’s the difference between veneers that last five years and veneers that last fifteen.
8. “Can I Speak to a Previous UK Patient?”
This is the ultimate test. A reputable clinic will have a list of satisfied international patients who are happy to share their experience. If they can’t provide a single reference, that’s a red flag.
At Taki Dent, we have dozens of UK patients who have written testimonials, and some even film video calls with new prospects. We’re proud of our work. If a clinic won’t connect you with a real person, they’re hiding something.
9. “What Happens If I’m Not Happy with the Shade or Shape?”
Smile design is subjective. You might love a bright white, or you might prefer a natural, slightly off-white shade. The clinic should allow at least one revision appointment before final bonding.
Ask: “Can I see the veneers in my mouth before they are cemented permanently?” The answer should be yes. We use try-in paste that mimics the final cement, so you can see the exact shade and shape. If you’re not happy, we adjust or remake them on the spot.
10. “Do You Have a UK-Based Partner for Follow-Up?”
This is becoming more common. Some Turkish clinics now have a UK-based dentist or a remote consultation service for post-operative care. It’s not a replacement for in-person care, but it’s a safety net.
Ask: “If I have a problem six months later, can you arrange a video call with a UK dentist?” If they can, that’s a strong sign of a clinic that cares about long-term outcomes.
The Bottom Line
Booking veneers in Turkey is a smart financial decision—if you do it right. The savings are real: 60–80% less than UK prices. But the risk is real too. The difference between a great result and a disaster is the questions you ask before you book.
If a clinic is transparent about materials, costs, qualifications, and follow-up, you’re in safe hands. If they dodge or give vague answers, walk away.
At Taki Dent, we answer every one of these questions before you even ask. It’s why we’re the highest-rated clinic in Antalya for UK patients. But if you want to compare offers anonymously, you can use Offerqo to get quotes from multiple clinics without revealing your identity.
Just remember: a cheap veneer is expensive if it fails. Ask the right questions, and you’ll leave Turkey with a smile that lasts.
